University of South Carolina Walk and Bike Event

The University of South Carolina and the City of Columbia recently celebrated the campus’ and the city’s commitment to wellness and sustainability through a walk and bike event. University and city partners met near USC’s student union to bike or walk down one of the most recent “Complete the Streets” projects within the university’s campus. The “Complete the Streets” project included the addition of bike lanes, crosswalks and pedestrian signs along a portion of Greene Street. This project was an effort to celebrate active living within the campus and city environment.

The event concluded with remarks by USC First Lady, Patricia Moore-Pastides, and Columbia Mayor, Steve Benjamin, on the progress and shared vision of University and city partners in continuing health initiatives for active living. The walk and bike Event was attended by students, faculty, and university staff, as well as representatives from the Columbia community, including local news and media outlets. The University hopes to host similar events in the future for the achievement of other milestones in improving the health and wellbeing of USC’s campus.
