Agency Basketball Tournament Raises More Than $1,000 for One SC Flood Relief Fund

A small idea turned into a huge success when several state agencies joined together for a bracket-style basketball tournament to promote physical activity among employees while supporting a great cause.

As part of the A Healthier State Initiative which encourages state agencies to create healthier work environments for their employees, the first State Employee Basketball Tournament was held March 12 to benefit the One SC Flood Relief Fund. Ten teams participated in a single-elimination tournament with a total of 108 players who came out to support their agencies and help raise funds for their community.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control’s team had the greatest number of participants and raised the most money with a total of $646.00. The Department of Employment and Workforce’s team (“Just DEW It”) won the prize for best team uniform. The Department of Mental Health’s team (“DMH Bulls”) won the coveted title of tournament champions.
