The SC Mission 2010 Story
SC Mission 2010 helps patients in the Upstate of South Carolina. The clinic, held August 6 and 7 at the Carolina First convention center in Greenville, was the first time that free medical, dental and vision services have been offered at the same location in the state. The clinic was really two clinics held at the same time. SC Mission 2010, providing medical and vision services, was sponsored by SCHA, along with the SC Optometric Association and AccessHealth SC, which is funded by the Duke Endowment. The SC Dental Association's hosted the dental clinic, called Dental Access Days.
SC Mission 2010's goal was to provide services and match patients to a medical home where they can continue to receive the care they need, according to Melanie Matney, AccessHealth SC executive director.
A total of 500 volunteers including physicians, nurses, dentists, optometrists, pharmacy and labor specialists, nursing and medical students, and lay persons helped make the clinic possible. An estimated 2000 persons from 20 counties received services during the two-day event.
