Pit Crews - Not Cowboys - Lead at Integration Symposium on November 19

Teamwork and partnership were the themes emphasized by Dr. Atul Gawande at the recent Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) annual meeting in Nashville. Dr. Gawande, who has done extensive work in South Carolina promoting the surgical safety checklist, spoke about how teams of managers, administrators, and clinicians now deliver much better results for patients.

"We have trained, hired, and rewarded people for being cowboys but it's pit crews we need for our patients,” explained Gawande.

In SC, we’ve learned from Dr. Gawande and other national leaders how to build networks and teams to support better care of patients and greater integration of services.

On November 19, the local chapters of ACHE, MGMA, and HFMA, along with SCHA will offer an Integration Symposium to consider how we can continue to integrate and build stronger teams. For those working in administration, finance, physician services, and clinical services, make plans to join us next week to build a pit crew of SC leaders. Click here to register.
