New Businesses Join Working Well Initiative
Forty three businesses will join the Working Well initiative in an effort to improve worksite wellness. They will follow the Working Well strategy which is to focus on creating policies, systems, and environments supportive of healthy living. These businesses received funding through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Community Tramformation Grant awarded to the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) earlier this year.
EatSmart MoveMore SC (ESMM SC) is working with DHEC to achieve the outlined grant objectives of the Healthy SC Initiative, formerly known as Community Transformation Grant. Working Well is one of the outlined evidence-based strategies ESMM SC will use to achieve the objectives focused on healthy eating and active living.
With the funding from the Healthy SC Initiative, these businesses will have access to the same free tools and resources the SCHA member hospitals were given acces to in January 2011. Technical assistance, training opportunities, and recommendations to assist in grade improvement using WorkHealthy AmericaSM are just a few examples of the resources made available to these buinsesses now involved with Working Well.
The new Working Well businesses range in size, geographic location, and the amount of existing employee wellness resources at their disposal. Eight businesses are located in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, three in Colleton County, and five in Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties. The others are spread throughout South Carolina.
