Palmetto Health's Vice President of Community and Governmental Relations, Julian Gibbons, has been awarded the 2012 Grassroots Champion award by the American Hospital Association as nominated by the South Carolina Hospital Association.
As a 2012 grassroots champion, Gibbons is being recognized for his exceptional leadership in generating grassroots and community activity in support of a hospital's mission.
This award was created to recognize hospital leaders who most effectively deliver their hospital's message to elected officials, broaden the base of community support for hospitals, and tirelessly advocate on behalf of patients, hospitals, and communities.
“We depend upon strong local voices to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve,” said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO. “This award is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these individuals to improving health and health care in America.”
"Julian has been an outstanding advocate for South Carolina hospitals and a great supporter of AHA and SCHA. He is strongly committed to grassroots participation," said SCHA Executive Vice President Allan Stalvey.
This award is presented annually to one individual from each state, with winners being chose by the state association. The 2012 honorees were recognized at a special breakfast of grassroots champions at the AHA annual membership meeting on May 8, 2012 in Washington D.C. Gibbons is one of 52 individuals honored this year.
