Hospitals now being recruited for new HEN work

SCHA is excited to announce that CMS has awarded Premier, Inc. one of 17 Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) contracts to continue our successful work with the national health reform program Partnership for Patients. Under this contract our member hospitals, designated as the SC Affinity Group within the Premier HEN, will aim to reduce hospital-acquired conditions and preventable readmissions over the next year.

PFP’s current goals include a 40% reduction in HACs and a 20% reduction in preventable readmissions compared to 2010, along with community coordination and improved patient and family engagement.

60 SC hospitals participated in the first Premier HEN, ultimately preventing 10,706 harmful events and saving nearly $103 million.

During the second round of the program, SCHA will continue working under the Premier HEN to develop targeted learning collaboratives, provide a wide array of initiatives and activities to improve patient safety, and spread best practices.

SCHA will:

  • Conduct intensive training programs to help our hospitals make patient care safer;
  • Provide technical assistance to our hospitals so they can achieve quality measurement goals; and
  • Establish, implement, and improve the system to track and monitor hospital progress in meeting the Partnership for Patients’ quality improvement goals.

There is no fee to join the new Affinity Group.

The SCHA Quality team will be reaching out to your facility’s CEO to secure a letter of participation for the program.  Please contact Lorri Gibbons at lgibbons@scha.org with any questions.
