Greenville County Hosts First Cardiac Survivor’s Ceremony
On May 19, 2011, Greenville County hosted its First Cardiac Survivor’s Ceremony at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, SC. The Carolina First Center was buzzing with over 300 health care professionals and health care leaders from Greenville and across the state
The purpose of the Cardiac Survivor’s Ceremony was simple, yet innovative and momentous for South Carolina:
- Recognize the entire chain of survival including the layperson, dispatcher, call taker, first responders and paramedics that provided the positive outcome
- Raise community awareness about heart disease, stroke and sudden cardiac death
- Kick off a new county health initiative comprised of public CPR and heart health classes.
The ceremony left attendees feeling energized and inspired to continue improving cardiac care throughout the Upstate and throughout South Carolina. The hope is that this ceremony, a unique event honoring the patient and the team that saved their life, will now be used to spark the same type of ceremonies in other communities across the state.
