South Carolina Hospitals Have Made New Strides in Eliminating Bloodstream and Post-Surgery Infections


The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) would like to publicly recognize and congratulate South Carolina hospitals on their excellent progress in making care safer, specifically the elimination of bloodstream and post-surgery infections. In 2016 37 hospitals received 110 Zero Harm awards, jointly certified by SCHA and DHEC.

For Zero Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI):

(Central line catheters are long, thin, flexible tubes inserted in the arm or chest through the skin into a larger vein in order to give medicines, fluids, and nutrients while also allowing blood sampling and other measurements. They are almost the most frequent way bloodstream infections in a clinical setting.)
