Be Something Amazing!
Rewarding Careers Available in Health Care
"Many students don't realize that hospitals are major employers in their communities. They think of doctors and nurses working in hospitals, but there are dozens of professional health care positions that pay very well and for which there is a growing demand. These are also personally fulfilling for individuals with the attitude and aptitude to work in a health care setting," said Lara Hewitt, director of workforce educational services for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA).
SCHA has also produced two DVDs that highlight different hospital careers and the opportunities they provide. Each educator who attends one of the road shows will receive a free copy of each. The videos, "Be Something Amazing" and "Amazing Careers in Surgical Services," feature real-life health care professionals from South Carolina talking about their careers. "Be Something Amazing," was partially funded by the Career Cluster Partnership Grant from the Department of Education and covers careers in physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, medical laboratories, and health information management. Some of the professionals featured in the videos will also speak with educators attending the road shows.
There is an online store from which educators can purchase copies of the two career DVDs, as well as Virtual Surgery Insider Broadcasts of open heart and total knee replacement surgeries.
