Assess and Address Tobacco Use on Your Hospital Campus

One of the three pillars of Working Well is creating and maintaining tobacco-free people and places.  Hospitals that meet the highest standard of excellence for the tobacco cessation programs offered to their employees are recognized as Gold Star hospitals through the Working Well initiative. All Working Well hospitals can complete the tobacco assessment within WorkHealthy AmericaSM  to determine what grade your hospital has earned for its quit tobacco systems.

If you haven’t ever completed the tobacco module before, you can access a short recorded webinar that helps you get started here.  After completing the assessment, you will receive a recommendations report, which summarizes the components that need improvement to reach an “A” grade, and an action plan that outlines customized in-depth changes your organization can make in order to reach all the requirements for a comprehensive quit tobacco system for employees.

With an action plan in place, your hospital can utilize the variety of resources that are included in the WorkHealthy AmericaSM tobacco toolbox to guide the development of a tobacco-free campus and tobacco-cessation system.  Available materials include a 12-month timeline, which gives a month-by-month guideline to implementation of a 100% tobacco-free property policy, and suggestions for employee benefits that can support individuals ready to quit.

Tobacco is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States.  Use Working Well resources to help make your hospital a tobacco-free worksite.
