American Heart Association Releases Its' First Policy Statement on E-Cigarettes
For five decades, the American Heart Association's volunteers and staff have worked to curb tobacco use and prevent death and disease caused by smoking. Now, a new product on the tobacco landscape demands their attention: e-cigarettes. After a thorough examination of the available science, they’ve just released their first policy statement on e-cigarettes. In it, you’ll find:
- strong support for regulations that would prohibit marketing or selling e-cigarettes to minors
- A recommendation that e-cigarettes be included in existing smoke-free laws
- Guidance for healthcare providers who would counsel patients about e-cigarettes
- A call for continued research and monitoring of these rapidly evolving products
You can read the full policy statement in Circulation, the Journal of the American Heart Association. Then, take a moment to visit the You’re the Cure blog and share your thoughts. Together, we’ll keep working toward a healthier future. Together, we’ll end the tobacco epidemic for good.
