Heart & Stroke Care Alliance

Nearly half of all U.S. adults have some type of cardiovascular disease, according to the most recent data from the American Heart Association. Cardiovascular diseases is the underlying cause of 1 out of every 3 deaths in the United States, most prominently when a heart attack or stroke occurs.

While there’s a host of population health factors that lead to cardiovascular disease (diet, smoking, physical activity, etc.), there’s also no denying that the quality and timeliness of care of these patients can make a real impact.

Since 2007, SCHA has worked with public and private partners to improve the speed and quality of heart attack and stroke treatment of South Carolinians. Those efforts eventually coalesced into dedicated Heart and Stroke Care Alliance that see hospitals sharing best practices and collaborating on everything from reducing door-to-needle times to promoting F.A.S.T. (Face-Arms-Speech-Time) stroke detection.

These efforts continue today. For more information about the Heart & Stroke Care Alliance, email Beth Morgan at bmorgan@scha.org.
