SCHA Solutions Adds a New Partner - Purgenix

As you walked into work today, did you pay any attention to the quality of the air as you entered the building?  Conditioned air is one of the most costly amenities you provide to patients, staff and visitors in terms of building infrastructure and operations cost. Poor indoor air quality is a source of hospital acquired infections that to date has not been adequately addressed by the healthcare industry.

Purgenix™ and SCHA Solutions are working together to help SCHA member hospitals benefit from proven technology aimed at improving South Carolina’s clinical outcomes and energy efficiency.

Just as you and your medical staff advise and counsel patients on the importance of healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare measures, your building requires the same level of stewardship.

We’ll be sending additional information regarding Purgenix™ in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, if you would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to contact Julian Emerson at 843-359-0596.

Beaufort Memorial Recognized for Nurse-Friendly Environment

In recognition of its nurse-friendly work environment, Beaufort Memorial Hospital has been awarded the Pathway to Excellence designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).  To achieve this distinction, BMH successfully completed an extensive review process, documenting that it follows the prescribed practices and policies that create an ideal work place for nurses.  As part of the review process, Beaufort Memorial’s nurses were asked to respond to a confidential, online survey verifying that the hospital has met the 12 Pathway to Excellence standards proven to create an ideal nursing practice environment. BMH received an overall positive rating score of 90 percent. A positive rating of 75 percent or better is necessary to be awarded the Pathway to Excellence designation. Established in 2007, the national program was developed to improve both the quality of patient care and the professional satisfaction of nurses by improving the workplace for nurses. To date, only 69 hospitals in the country have earned the designation.

B.E. Smith Report Addresses Succession Planning for Hospitals

The only constant in health care is change. Technological advances, aggressive health care reform, and increasing regulatory and reporting demands are critical issues for every CEO and his or her team. However, with nearly 75 percent of CEOs planning to retire in the next 10 years and 60 percent of CNOs anticipating changing jobs in the next four years, succession planning has moved to the forefront of strategic planning. Are you ready for the changes? Read Growing Tomorrow's Talent Today: Succession Planning a Critical Strategy in Healthcare, published by B.E. Smith.

A Non-Profit Hospital's Guide to the Community Health Needs Assessment

The passage of federal health reform introduced new requirements for non-profit hospitals, one of which is the completion of a community health needs assessment (CHNA). During this program, our panel of experts will speak to the requirements and deadlines for the CHNA, with a review of current CHNA models, necessary data to include, and where to look for data sources. Those staff with responsibilities in planning, marketing, public relations, community health, compliance, community benefit reporting, and finance should plan to participate. Download the brochure and registration information. For more information, contact Rozalynn Goodwin.
