Who will be this year’s Distinguished Trustee of the Year?
Last year, Dr. Boyce G. Tollison, vice chairman of the Baptist Easley Hospital board of directors, was named South Carolina’s Distinguished Trustee of the Year at the Annual Trustee Administrator Physician Conference.
As a family practitioner, he cared for several generations of the same families before his retirement, and “he was loved by every patient he ever touched,” says Ann Gassmann, a long-time hospital employee who currently manages the Birthplace.”
According to members of the nursing staff who worked with Dr. Tollison, if he was around everyone just instinctively knew that everything was going to be fine.
When the hospital formed a partnership with both Palmetto Health and Greenville Hospital System, a new board of directors was established for the hospital, and Dr. Tollison was elected vice chairman of the board. He also serves as chairman of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee.
Having served on the South Carolina Baptist Hospital Board, he brought a wealth of history and information to the position, which he generously uses to mentor new board members. He was also tapped by the South Carolina Medical Association to represent South Carolina as a delegate to the American Medical Association.
During this year’s TAP Conference to be held September 13-15, 2012, Dr. Tollison will announce the 2012 Distinguished Trustee of the Year.
