Pain
Policy Core Group Meeting Held in Columbia On February 20th the SCPI Pain Policy Core Group members met to discuss pain management barriers and issues in South Carolina, learned about the Pain and Policy Studies Group Report Card and began to work on an action plan for improving policy in our state. The meeting was sponsored by the American Cancer Society and was held at the SC Pharmacy Association. David Woodmansee, ACS National Government Relations presented information about the PPSG Report card and its significance. Currently, SC is rated C+ in pain management policy. Representatives from healthcare boards and associations and DHEC Department of Drug Control attended. |

Planning
for 2008 Pain Conference We
are beginning to plan for this year’s Carolinas Pain Congress which will
be held at Charlotte Marriot Executive Park September 25, 26. The next
planning call is set for March 19th at 11 a.m. If you are interested in
participating and helping determine topics and speakers, please contact

Project
APPROACH Video Progress The patient education pain video is in process of being filmed by MUSC Technology Services. Project APPROACH (Awareness of Patient Pain and Rights for Optimal Assessment in Hospitals) is an SCPI public awareness piece and will be promoted to hospitals in SC with the support of the SCHA. The video will also have a Latino version. The video is due to premiere in the Spring. |
