South Carolina hospitals' revenue stream is critical to their overall mission of providing care to those in their communities. Medicare and Medicaid provide more than half of most hospitals' patient revenue, with the rest coming mainly from commercial insurers. Hospitals need to be informed of any changes in reimbursement or regulations concerning Medicaid or Medicare and have the opportunity to respond to proposed changes. SCHA dedicates many resources to advocate for fair government reimbursement, as well as to monitor and respond to changes in private insurance payment policies. SCHA fulfills this role on behalf of member hospitals and keeps them informed of any proposed changes. With the assistance of the membership, SCHA also responds to proposed policies and requirements impacting hospitals. Health care reform at the state and federal levels will create significant change in hospital payment policies over the next decade.
